Story
A Montana cattle ranching family comes face to face with others who are encroaching on their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montana accent and revert to his usual Southern California voice.
Costner is a master at acting as the lead Duttons
Featured on WatchMojo: 10 Best Summer TV Shows You’re Not Watching (2018). (Review is for the first two seasons only) I went into this series not expecting to like it, but the plot, acting, and cinematography are top-notch. It’s basically Montana Mob Wars interspersed with massive doses of testosterone (gun-toting cowboys on horses while fishing)!
The show is at its best when it shows the chessboard moves the Duttons and their enemies make
The show starts to come together early in season two, but starts to spiral again in the middle. Kelsey Asbille is Monica’s weakest link and her performance is poor, the plot unfolds awkwardly and the acting misses the mark. I think Cole Hauser as Rip might be the strongest actor (aside from Costner himself) and I was looking forward to every Rip scene.
Thomas Rainwater is also great
The plot is vibrant and the scenery is beautiful. Just as Cormac McCarthy’s All The Pretty Horses was a bit more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show strikes a similar tone. I highly recommend it and regret waiting so long to watch it.
