Story
When maple syrup farmer Ruth Landry finds her livelihood under attack from greedy competitors who were once her friends, she hatches a plan to get revenge and shake up the entire industry. Loosely based on the 2011-2012 theft of $18 million worth of maple syrup from a storage facility in Quebec; five people were sentenced to prison. A collection of strange characters in dire situations who try to pull off a maple syrup heist to save their financial woes.
He’s the sole custodian of the entire maple syrup supply
It turns out her husband owns the rights to harvest the syrup, so she’s been fined for illegally using his rights. Remy, a sort of sadsack character, is the security guard at the warehouse where all the syrup is stored, and one night he steals a barrel or two from the warehouse with a friend who is suddenly killed. With Ruth in financial trouble, the only way forward was a much larger-scale heist, and he and Remy brought Mike into the plan.
The truth is quite different
Mike comes across as a force capable of doing great things. And with all the personality clashes and plot twists, it almost becomes a Keystone cop. Every time they seem to have things under control, hitches happen, and their approach to solving them is a big part of the humor.
And a very interesting cameo appearance
The cop is that it leads into season two, so there are a lot of loose ends. And as was very clear, that’s not how the actual heist was done. So this is a funny fictional account.
