Cast AniMat’s crazy cartoon: Silly Old Deadly Bear (2022)
Story
Four kids make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that leads them to get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law in “Skeleton Crew”; plus more stars from a galaxy far, far away. The holographic circus that entertains Neel’s younger siblings is the same one Chewbacca’s family follows in the infamous The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978).
Give me a show like Andor set in the Old Republic with Jedi, Sith, and Nick Gillard as stunt coordinators for lightsaber battles
Like most ’80s kids, I have fond memories of The Goonies, but I’d be lying if I said that was the direction I desperately wanted new Star Wars content to go. I mean, after the disappointment of the sequel trilogy and beyond—all of Disney’s live-action content except for Andor, Rogue One, and the first two seasons of Mando I’d rate somewhere between mediocre and bad—I’m hungry for good, mature, epic Star Wars content. It’s not offensive or poorly made; it’s not obviously cheap like The Book of Boba Fett; it’s not aimless like Mando in Season 3; it’s not revealing new things like sequels and Kenobi; it’s not tone-deaf like The Novice.
This is basically Star Wars Goonies, a cute story about a bunch of kids having an adventure in the Star Wars universe
Hate it? The writing so far (as of episode 2) is decent: the effects, costumes, and locations look great; it all has a certain charm. My guess is that this, like Andor, was a passion project for its creators and was seen as a minor side project by the higher-ups, who therefore didn’t bother to get involved, which these days at Lucasfilm is a blessing.
So far so good
