Story
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, lands a high-profile job she is ill-suited for, with dramatic implications for her marriage and her political future. Producers were convinced, and American & British governments allowed them to use real-world environments as filming locations for the series, including the fledgling U.S. Embassy (in Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.
The only location unavailable was Winfield House, the actual residence of the US
The UK allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, a rare honor given to any film or production, especially American. ambassador. Although it is accurately described as being the largest residential estate (11 acres) in London next to Buckingham Palace, producers used a country house outside the city for filming.

I have to admit, I wasn’t planning on watching The Diplomat but after hearing so many good things about it and reading all the stellar reviews, I thought I’d give it a try. I’m so glad I did because it was great. I’m actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
I was hooked from the first episode
Even though Keri Russell was great in The Americans, I thought it was more about the writing than her acting so I wasn’t sure if she and Rufus Sewell could carry the show as leads but they certainly did, they’re both fantastic here. The chemistry between these two is what makes this show so good. I could definitely see this series winning some awards.
