The scar on Skye’s knee is in the shape of a smile
Story
About to embark on a world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and pressure of fame, Skye is forced to confront her past.. In one scene, Skye places a VOSS water bottle on the stone/marble kitchen counter and a sound is heard that matches the sound of being put away something plastic.

The VOSS water bottles are glass, something that’s actually highlighted in the movie, so the sound doesn’t match the action being seen.. Skye Riley: [smiling entity] You’re not in control, I am! .
It also presents some deep themes about the toxic pop star culture
A very disturbing take on the Smile phenomenon using the pop music scene and celebrity culture as a backdrop. Skye, the central character, is at the center of this horrifying story that presents layers of life spiraling out of control. We see most of the story from Skye’s perspective and thus the film does a great job of building empathy towards the character despite all her moral flaws.
If you like body horror, you’ll love this
In the film, The Smile takes on many meanings as it also reflects the pressure of appearing and smiling on camera when one’s mental health is in shambles. Her mom, her assistant, and her fans seem sane in this chaos, but their actions seem to have become instruments of torture. It’s so upsetting, I personally feel like Skye goes through too much and in the end I’m just relieved that the movie is over.
