This commitment from the cast helps to heighten the tension, even if the plot remains predictable
“Don’t Move” had me torn between rating it a 6 or 7, but ultimately the quality of the acting led me to rate it a 7. The cast delivers strong performances that ground the film, bringing depth and believability to their roles, which adds much-needed intensity to the familiar plot. Each actor seems genuinely invested in the fear and vulnerability of their character, which translates into a sense of realism often lacking in horror and thrillers.
Visually, “Don’t Move” does a great job of creating a haunting, unsettling atmosphere
The set design is meticulously crafted, reinforcing the sense of confinement that the story requires. The cinematography makes good use of these spaces, using tight shots and darkened frames to draw the audience into the characters’ mental spaces, capturing the sense of dread that permeates the setting. The constant pressure of “time” heightens the tension and creates a constant sense of unease, making each moment feel more urgent and dangerous.
The sound design and lighting work together to heighten the tension
The director skillfully builds tension through subtle sound cues, creaks, and echoes that reinforce the film’s fear. The film makes effective use of silence, creating an unsettling silence that is only broken by sudden, jarring sounds that strike with greater force. While “Don’t Move” may not be groundbreaking, it still manages to capture some classic horror thrills.

Ultimately, it’s a solid, atmospheric thriller that shines with its production value and acting, offering enough tension and spine-chilling moments for genre fans to watch. The final season of What We Do in the Shadows is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
